The St. John Fisher College field hockey team defeated Denison University 1-0 at Growney Stadium on Saturday for its first win of the season.

The Cardinals (1-1) and the Big Red (0-1) battled back and forth in the first half as Denison recorded 10 shots and Fisher tallied nine shots. Senior goalie
Danielle Famolaro stood tall for Fisher however as she made six first-half saves.

In the second half, the Cardinals managed to break the scoreless draught in the 47th minute when freshman
Lauren Fazio found sophomore
Emily Markarian in the circle, who then found the back of the cage to put Fisher up 1-0.

Later in the half, Famolaro once again came up big for the Cardinals when she made a key save in the 66
th minute and then again in the 67
th minute. The Rome native is now 1-1 on the season and has recorded 21 total saves on the year through only two games.

Fisher will look to earn its second victory of the season at 1 p.m. on Sunday as the Cardinals host Oberlin College at Growney Stadium.
