The St. John Fisher College volleyball team began its season on a winning note on Tuesday, as the Cardinals defeated visiting SUNY Geneseo in four sets (25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 25-22) at Bobby Wanzer Court.

After falling behind 3-1 early in the first set, a
Katie Mazierski kill ignited a Cardinals rally in which they took five straight points en-route to a 6-3 advantage. Later in the set, Geneseo would battle back to take an 18-17 lead before Fisher took the next four points to go up 21-18 and hold on for the win.
Fisher took an 8-5 lead early in the second set and used two aces from
Amanda Miller during a 7-1 run to put the Cardinals up 15-6.

Despite a hot start to the third set, Fisher could not hold on to a 4-0 lead as the Knights took 10 of 11 points for a 10-4 lead. Trailing 24-20 late in the set, an
Anna Marcy kill cut the deficit to three points, but the Cardinals couldn't close the match out.

The fourth set saw Fisher jump out to a 6-2 lead when
Meghan Stonebarger earned a point off a kill. The Knights would rally back to go up 11-10 before another Stonebarger kill gave the Cardinals momentum as they would go on to take seven of the next nine points for a 19-15 lead. Fisher ultimately won the fourth set 25-22 to seal the match, 3-1.

Marcy led the way for the Cardinals as the sophomore finished with a team-high 11 kills to go along with 11 digs, while Stonebarger led her squad with 30 assists..

Senior
Megan Miller tallied nine kills, while
Amanda Miller tallied seven kills a team-high .353 hitting percentage. Mazierski led Fisher with 13 kills, while freshman
Elise Kruez added 10 in her collegiate debut.
Fisher returns to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday when it takes on the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg in the first game of the Morrisville State Tournament.
