Third-seeded St. John Fisher College dropped a 9-8 decision in 10 innings to No. 2 Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday in the Empire 8 Conference Baseball Championship at Utica College. With the loss, Fisher falls to 23-18, while Stevens improves to 29-13.
Trailing 8-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Fisher rallied to forced extra innings. Freshman
Scott Eisenmenger homered to start the inning and pinch-hitter
Jack Trotman delivered a two-out, two run single, scoring
Tyler Troccia and
Malcolm Kelsey. Two batters later,
Mike Roman singled to score Trotman to force extra innings.
After Stevens scored in the 10th, Eisenmenger led off with a single, but after pinch runner
Troy Loparco advanced to second on a balk, the Cardinals couldn't plate the tying run.
Eisenmenger led Fisher on the day with four hits and four RBI.
Fisher returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday against SUNY Canton in the third-place game.
