Baseball Loses Heartbreaker At Stevens

The St. John Fisher College baseball team gave up four runs in the eighth inning and suffered a 7-6 loss to host Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, Fisher falls to 6-12 overall, while Stevens improves to 11-9.

Fisher took a 3-2 lead in the sixth on a two-run homer to right from Joe Simmons, scoring Shane Barley.

After the Ducks tied it back up in the bottom half of the inning, Fisher scored two more runs in the seventh to take a 5-3 advantage.

Mike Roman double to left-center, scoring Cody Wiktorski, while Calvin Woolhiser singled in Roman later in the frame.

Stevens, however, scored four unearned runs in the eighth to take a 7-5 lead.  In the ninth, Fisher's Scott Eisenmenger hit a one-out solo home run, but the Cardinals couldn't plate the game-tying run.

For Fisher, Woolhiser was 4-for-4 on the day, while Mike Roman added three hits.

Simmons was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Barley was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Starting pitcher Stephen Lewis scattered six hits over six innings.  Kevin Berge was charged with the loss, allowing four unearned runs on two hits over 1.2 innings of action.

Fisher will return to action at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.  The Cardinals will resume Friday's second game, currently in the top of sixth inning with the Ducks holding a 5-1 advantage in the seven-inning affair.

Saturday's originally-scheduled nine inning game will begin immediately after.
