Dante Giordano recorded a career-high five goals to lead the St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team to a 17-4 victory over visiting Elmira College on Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to his five goals, the sophomore finished with two ground balls.
With the wins, the Cardinals improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in Empire 8 Conference play.
The Cardinals were off to a slow start, allowing the Soaring Eagles to take a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game.
Tim Wagner helped Fisher get right back into the game, scoring his 10th of the year just 30 seconds later to make it a 1-1 game.
Five minutes passed before Giordano scored his first tally of the day.
Nick Rossi extended Fisher's lead to 3-1 with a few minutes left in the opening quarter. Elmira would squeeze in one notch before the horn.
From that point to the 5:31 mark in the fourth quarter, Fisher held Elmira scoreless and jumped out to a 16-3 lead with 13 unanswered goals.
The Cardinals saw nine players score with
Andrew Rosso totaling three and
Nick Rossi with two.
Tanner Swan made six saves in net to improve to 8-5 on the year.
Zach Knight saw 10 minutes in net, matching his career-high five saves, while
Justin Townsend recorded five minutes in goal, allowing one tally.
The Cardinals return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when they host Alfred University in a key Empire 8 matchup.
