Men’s Basketball Stymied by Brockport in Wendy’s Classic

The No. 10 St. John Fisher College men's basketball team lost to the College at Brockport 67-50 in the Wendy's College Classic on Friday at Roberts Wesleyan College.

With the loss, the top-seeded Cardinals drop to 3-2 overall on the season and will play at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the seventh place game, to be played at Fisher, against the loser of Hobart/Nazareth.

In the first three minutes of the game, Brockport jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead over the Cardinals and would eventually carry that momentum to an 18-11 lead with just seven minutes left in the half. That was when Fisher benefitted from eight consecutive free throw attempts, knocking down five, to make it 18-16 with six minutes remaining.

Brockport closed out the first half strong however, going on a 14-3 run to head into intermission with a 32-19 advantage over the Cardinals.

In the second half, Fisher cut the Golden Eagles' lead down to 10 points when Keegan Ryan made a layup off of a Zach Ottaway pass to make it a 36-26 game with just over 16 minutes left.

After falling behind 62-35, Fisher used a 14-4 run to climb back into the game. Daniel Morales sunk a three-pointer with just over four minutes left to play, putting the Cardinals behind 66-49.

That was as close as the Cardinals would come down the stretch however as Brockport would hold on for the 17-point victory.

Chaz Lott led Fisher with 16 points while making 7-of-10 shots in the contest while Keegan Ryan recorded seven points and six rebounds.

Tyler English tallied nine points on 50% shooting from the floor and Ottaway finished with seven points and four rebounds.
