Women's Soccer Falls To Nazareth In Conference Opener

The St John Fisher College women's soccer team opened Empire 8 conference play falling 3-0 to nationally-ranked Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon at Fisher's Growney Stadium.

Nazareth opened up the scoring in the 30th minute when Paige Sullivan scored off of a Courtney Malia assist, putting No. 20 Nazareth up 1-0.

The Cardinals threatened in the 42nd minute when a potential equalizer by Carly Finn was waived off, keeping the score 1-0 in favor of the Golden Flyers at the half.

Malia opened the second-half scoring in the 52nd minute when the Golden Flyers were able to draw a penalty inside the box.  Malia converted on the ensuing penalty kick, beating Fisher's Brooke Seavitt on a low shot into the left corner.

Fisher again threatened in the 56th minute when Taryn Guinta was able to slip behind the defense, but her shot sailed high of the net and the score remained 2-0.

Kaitlyn Sowryda closed out the scoring and put the game out of reach when she found the back of the net in the 64th minute, putting Nazareth up 3-0.

Seavitt finished with eight saves in the net for Fisher.

Fisher falls to 2-8 overall and  0-1 in conference play.

The Cardinals return to action at 1 p.m.  Saturday when they travel to take on the Utica College Pioneers.
