Volleyball Loses Two In Straight Sets

The St. John Fisher College volleyball team completed the Rochester Institute of Technology Volleyball Invitational 0-4, going 0-2 on Saturday.

RIT's Sarah Szybist tallied 19 kills against Fisher in the first match, as the Tigers swept the Cardinals in three straight sets.

Fisher fought back and nearly took the third set, once leading 14-19. RIT went on a six-point unanswered run, though, to regain the lead at 20-19. The two squads battled point-by-point, until the Tigers took the final two points to win the match.

Megan Miller fueled the offense with nine kills, while Madison Karwas helped with six of her own. Karwas' 90 kills on the season top the Cardinals leaders.

Erica Stickler tallied 14 assists, while Katie Mazierski led the defense with 12 digs.

In the nightcap against SUNY Geneseo, Fisher faced another three-set loss, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-20.

Mazierski led both the offense and defense with seven kills, an additional 13 digs and a service ace.

Miller and Paige Willson added six kills apiece, and Stickler notched 33 assists.

Fisher brings a 4-9 overall record into the opening weekend of conference play at the Empire 8 Crossover at Hartwick College on Saturday.
