It was a tale of two games on Friday for the St. John Fisher College softball squad who fell 10-0 in five innings in the opening game to Ithaca College only to come back in the second game and return the favor downing the visiting Bombers 10-2 in five innings.
Fisher moves to 18-8 and 4-4 in Empire 8 play while Ithaca falls to 16-8, 5-3.
Game 1: Ithaca 10, Fisher 0 (5 Innings)Ithaca did some damage early, scoring four runs in the first inning while the Cardinals were held without a run after Meghan burns and
Jennifer Knaak each singled to start off the Fisher bats.
It was much of the same in the second with Ithaca keeping their bats hot launching back-to-back home runs to put up an identical score to the first inning and take an 8-0 advantage.
Genevieve Paeglow started off the bottom half with a double, followed up by a single from
Olivia Fusilli who advanced to second on an error by the center fielder, however the Cardinals came out of the inning empty handed.
Both squads were scoreless in the third inning but the Bombers added two more in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead which would prove to be the final scoring of the game.
Knaak was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate in the loss.
Lauren Wesolowski was the losing pitcher for Fisher falling to 4-4 on the year.
Game 2: Fisher 10, Ithaca 2 (5 innings)After not scoring a run the entire first game the Fisher offense made up for it right from the start scoring seven runs in the opening frame to take a commanding 7-1 lead.
Jessica D'Angelo recorded an RBI to get things going in the inning to score Burns and tie the game at one.
Jessie Smyrski was up for the challenge as the next batter knocking a 2-RBI single to bring around
Lauren Owens and D'Angelo. Fisher opened it up even more three batters later when
Samantha Poules launched a grand slam to left center to completely deflate the Bombers spirits.
Fisher added another run in the second inning from D'Angelo and Ithaca answered with a score of its own in the third as the scoreboard read 8-2.
The Cardinals continued to have their winning mentality in the fourth inning as they rallied with two outs to score two runs. With the bases loaded Poules reached on an error by the third baseman to score D'Angelo. As the very next batter
Kate Disbrow helped Fisher gain its final insurance run needed to end the game in five innings drawing a walk to score Paeglow.
