Cardinals Close Out Regular Season With 105-Point Effort

BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team saved its best for last, scoring a season-high 105 points to extend its winning streak to five games after a 22-point road win over conference foe, Alfred University Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals close out the regular season with a 16-9 record including a 9-5 mark in the Empire 8, while Alfred dips to 17-6 and 8-4 in the conference standings.

Fisher sank a season-high 39-of-48 free-throws (81%) in the win, while also connecting on nearly 61% of its shots from the field.  The Cardinals' defense also played big, holding Alfred to 44% shooting for the game, while forcing the Saxons into 16 turnovers.

Five Cardinals reached double figures as Junior Stefan Bock led all scorers with 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting to go alongside five rebounds three steals and a pair of assists.  Chaz Lott registered 17 points, four assists and four steals, while Adam Ambielli drained 11 from the charity stripe en route to 17 points of his own.  Tyler Hart scored 15 and Optimystik Kinard poured in 13 points.

The Cardinals took the lead for good at the 12:25 mark of the first half after Hart drained a pair of foul shots to break a tie game, making it 22-20.

After swapping baskets, Fisher would jump out to a 10-point lead courtesy of an 11-2 run capped by a 3-pointer from Hart.

The Saxons would cut Fisher's lead to single digits, but the Cardinals exploded as the half wore on, outscoring the home team 18-4 over the final 7:15 of the first half as Fisher went into the locker room holding its largest lead of the game, 57-33.

Alfred came out a different team in the opening minutes of the second half.  The Saxons quickly erased Fisher's advantage after orchestrating a 17-2 run to bring it to 59-50 with 16:36 left to play.

Both teams continued to battle before Alfred would eventually come to within seven points, but that was as close as the Saxons would come.  Fisher took control, scoring 11 unanswered points to stretch its lead back to 16.

Fisher would close out the game at the charity stripe, converting 15-of-17 attempts to claim a 22-point lead and the win.

The Cardinals entered today's contest holding the fifth spot in the Empire 8 standings and will await word on their postseason hopes, as several Empire 8 opponents will close out their seasons in the coming week.
