The No. 4 seed St. John Fisher College women's soccer team fell 3-1 to top-seeded Ithaca College in the semifinal game of the Empire 8 Championship on Friday.
The Bombers struck first in the 10th minute. Sarah Woychick pushed a slow-roller past
Brooke Seavitt to make it a 1-0 game.
Woychick tallied her second goal of the day and sixth of the season in a similar fashion, by beating Seavitt in the 31st minute of play. Ithaca extended its lead to 3-0 five minutes later and kept that same margin into the half.
The Fisher offense was able to break the stingy Bomber defense with just 1:50 remaining in the contest as
Molly Beaton tallied her third goal of the season.
Jackie Romano dribbled down the right side and found Beaton in front of the net, who shot it past a diving Beth Coppolecchia.
Ithaca held a 17-5 shooting advantage over the Cardinals.
Seavitt made four saves in net for Fisher in 82:28 of play before she was replaced by
Gabriella Cotugno to close out the game.
Beaton and freshman
Chelsea Grupp were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts.
The Cardinals close out the 2014 season with a 6-12-1 overall record and 4-5 in conference play.Â
