The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College football team (5-1, 4-1) will close out its non-conference schedule this weekend as it will travel to Alfred State (2-4) for the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
No. 15 Fisher is fresh off a dominating performance over Utica College in which six different players scored en route to a 42-7 road victory. The last time that the Cardinals saw six different players find the end zone was in 2012 when Fisher defeated Castleton State 63-7 in the ECAC Northwest Championship Bowl.
Alfred State, which is the second year of a 4-year transition into NCAA Division III, are winners of two straight, including defeating Erie Community College 10-3 last weekend. Alfred State boasts a tremendous back in Rasheed Williams who averages 206 yards per game this year and has not gone a game without rushing for at least 130 yards this season.
Following last week's stout performance from the defense in which the Cardinals limited Utica to just 29 yards rushing, Fisher has now held three opponents this season to 40 yards or fewer on the ground. Fisher surrendered just 22 yards on 25 attempts (.9 average) against Hartwick College, while giving up a measly 38 yards on 31 attempts (1.2 average) against Frostburg State.
