For the seventh time in the last eight games, the St. John Fisher College men's basketball program came away with a win, as the Cardinals shot 58% from the floor and defeated visiting Utica College 83-65 on Saturday at Fisher's Bobby Wanzer Court.
With the win, Fisher raises its record to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8, while Utica falls to 6-9, 1-5.Â
Five players finished in double figures for the Cardinals.Â
Stefan Bock scored a career-high 21 points. Â
Chaz Lott tallied 14 points, 10 assists and three steals, while
Optimystik Kinard added 14 points, nine boards and four steals. Freshman
Keegan Ryan finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, while
Charles McVay added 10 points.
Utica jumped out to a 25-20 lead midway through the first half, but Fisher responded with a 16-2 run over the next five minutes and led by nine at 41-32 at the half.
Fisher pushed its lead to 15 early on in the second half, but the Pioneers hung tough and cut the lead down to seven at 64-57 with just over five minutes left.   The Cardinals, however, didn't squander the advantage and went on a 16-4 run over the next three minutes, capitalizing at the charity stripe. Â
Fisher shot 17-for-18 (94.4%) from the foul line of the second half. The Cardinals finished the game with a 30-22 advantage in rebounds and forced 13 steals.  Utica shot a stellar 11-for-19 (57.9%) from 3-point range.
Fisher will return to action at 6 p.m. next Friday and will host Elmira College.  It will be the fifth of six straight home games.
