The St. John Fisher College volleyball team split a pair of games at the University of Rochester Invitational Friday. The Cardinals dispatched of Hamilton College 25-18, 25-21, 26-24, 25-23, 16-14 before falling to SUNY New Paltz 25-13, 25-21, 25-16.
With the split, the Cardinals move to 3-3 on the season.
In the opening game against Hamilton College, the Cardinals got off to a strong start, taking the first set 25-18, but Hamilton regained its composure and claimed the next two sets, to hold a 2-1 advantage. The Continentals looked to seal the match in the fourth set, but Fisher stormed back from a five point hole to even the score at 23-23. Lauren Rokjer came up big at the net, resulting in the set's final points.
In the final set, both teams jockeyed for the lead, exchanging point after point. Hamilton held a 14-12 lead, but as it had the entire match, Fisher came from behind, scoring four consecutive points to put the match away.
Rachael Kline and
Megan Miller were a force to be reckoned with as the two combined for 31 of Fisher's 48 kills.Â
Erica Stickler had 14 assists, while
Ali Mann Chipped in 12 of her own.
Emma Lonadier paced Hamilton's offense, tallying 28 of the team's 39 assists.
In the nightcap, the Cardinals battled, but fell in straight sets to the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz.
Stickler led Fisher with 14 assists, while
Jasmine Davis,
Paige Willson, Kline and Miller each smashed four kills.
The Cardinals will return to action Saturday as the University of Rochester Invitational continues with a 1 p.m. match against SUNY Oswego followed by a 3 p.m. contest with Skidmore College.
