The St. John Fisher field hockey team dropped its Empire 8 Conference opener 4-0 on Saturday against the Utica College Pioneers at Growney stadium.
The Pioneers doubled up the Cardinals in the first half, although Fisher had a slight edge in shots, 8-7.Â
Louise Steele Norton got things going for the Pioneers seven minutes into the contest on an unassisted goal. She also added an insurance goal at the end of the game with less than ten seconds remaining.
Alexandrea Malley led the way for the Cardinals with four shots.Â
Danielle Famolaro made two saves in net for Fisher.
The Cardinals fall to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Fisher is back in action at 4:30 p.m Wednesday traveling to Wells College for a non-conference matchup.
