The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team fell 11-3 to No. 17 Ithaca College on Friday night in Ithaca, NY. The Empire 8 loss drops the Cardinals to 2-2 in the conference and 8-4 overall while the Bombers improve to 8-4, 2-1.
Both teams struggled to find the net early on, as Ithaca led just 1-0 after the opening period. Early in the second quarter, Fisher tied the score at 1-1 off a
Greg Ramsden unassisted goal. The Bombers then added three-straight goals to head to the locker rooms with a 4-1 advantage.
The Cardinals got on the board first in the second half as Ramsden got his second point of the day with an assist on a
Jeff Wester score. Fisher's goal cut the Ithaca lead to 4-2.
Once again Ithaca responded to the slight Fisher surge, stringing together five goals over an 10:22 span between the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth.
Ryan Freije scored the Cardinals' final goal after winning a faceoff with 9:38 to play, making the margin 9-3 in favor of the Bombers.
Ithaca outshot Fisher 38-22 in the contest and collected 18 more ground balls than the Cardinals. Fisher was extremely efficient on the clear, failing on just 1-of-18 attempts.
Jamie Campagna stopped 10 shots in goal for the Cardinals.
Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as it hosts SUNY Oswego in a non-league game.
