Courage Bowl IX will take place this Saturday with St. John Fisher College hosting Alfred University at 1 p.m. at Fisher's Growney Stadium. The annual game is dedicated to the children of Camp Good Days and Special Times. The inaugural Courage Bowl came in 2005 at Growney Stadium against the University of Rochester. Fisher and the U of R squared off eight times, with Fisher claiming each contest, before Alfred joined on for the 2013 season. In 2014, Brockport will take Alfred's place as Fisher's opponent.
Tickets to Saturday's game are $5 and all proceeded from the event will go to Camp Good Days.
At Wednesday's kickoff luncheon, Camp Good Days selected six boys, all of whom are campers in Camp Good Days' programs and are dealing with cancer, to serve as Honorary Coaches, three with each team. The Honorary Coaches meet their team; will be in the locker room with their team; lead their team on to the field; be at midfield for the coin toss; and coach from the sidelines during the game.
Camp Good Days also selected five girls, also campers who are dealing with cancer, to serve as Honorary Cheerleaders. The Honorary Cheerleaders will meet the squad for pre-game preparation on game-day, and cheer with the squad during the game.
Fisher is coming off a 24-6 win over Buffalo State last week, where quarterback
Matt Naton, making his first career start, was 14 of 23 for 293 and throwing for two touchdowns.
Alfred is riding a four-game win streak, most recently defeating Utica College 48-31.
