The St. John Fisher College volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday, losing to Hartwick College 3-1 before downing Houghton College 3-1 at the Empire 8 Crossover hosted by Elmira College.
With the split, Fisher improves to 11-11 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Down 1-0 against Hartwick, the Cardinals rallied in the second set, but came up just short as the Hawks held on for the 27-25 win.Â
Facing defeat, the Cardinals hunkered down in the third frame, scoring big point after big point for the 25-21 win to force a fourth set.
In the deciding set, Hartwick controlled the pace from the get-go, outscoring the Cardinals 25-14 to earn the win.
HARTWICK BOX
The roles were reversed against Houghton as the Cardinals jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead (25-21) before Houghton battled in the second frame to tie the score at 1 set apiece.
Fisher would regain its composure and take a very close third set, 27-25 before closing the match out in the fourth, 25-23.
HOUGHTON BOX
Megan Miller had a strong day at the net, combining for 29 kills including 17 against Hartwick to go along with 26 digs.Â
Rachael Kline smashed a combined 34 kills with 18 coming against the Highlanders.Â
Andrea Gillespie kept the ball moving as she combined for 35 digs in the match including a team-high 26 against Houghton.Â
Erica Stickler tallied 66 assists in the two-game span with a career-high 45 coming in the win against Houghton.Â
Ali Mann had 15 assists against Houghton.
Fisher returns to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when it travels to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on Medaille College.Â
