BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College volleyball team battled, but came up short, losing in four sets (8-25, 29-27, 12-25, 20-25) to the Buffalo State Bengals, Tuesday night at Bobby Wanzer Court.

With the loss, Fisher slides to 10-9 on the season, while Buffalo State improves to 12-6 on the year.

The Bengals got off to a strong start, scoring 20 of the set's first 24 points including 10 straight points.

Fisher would shake off the first set however, jumping out to a 6-2 lead in the second frame.  Buffalo State would climb back into the set; eventually taking a 19-15 lead, but the Cardinals would rally, tying the score at 23-23.  Neither team would give an inch, as each exchanged points until Fisher registered three unanswered points to claim a 29-27 win.

The visiting Bengals bounced back in the fourth, stretching their lead to 21-5 en route to a 25-12 win.

In the deciding set, the Cardinals tried to overcome a six point gap, but were unable to make up the ground as Buffalo held on to clinch the win.

Rachael Kline had 11 kills to go along with four blocks, while Megan Miller smashed 10 kills and came up with six digs.  Jessica Simonetti paced Fisher with 17 digs, and Erica Stickler had a team-high 19 assists.

The Cardinals will return to play at 4 p.m. on Friday against Stevens Institute of Technology in the first day of the Empire 8 Crossover hosted by Elmira College.
