St. John Fisher College trailed top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology by just on goal at the half, but gave up five straight goals in the opening seven minutes of the third quarter, as the No. 4 Cardinals dropped an 11-5 decision to the host Ducks in the Empire 8 Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday.
With the loss, Fisher finishes the season with an 11-5 overall record. It is the sixth straight season the Cardinals have won 10 or more games and marks the sixth time in the last seven years they have advanced to the postseason.
Fisher dominated the early going. The Cardinals outshot the Ducks 17-4 in the opening quarter and won all five faceoffs and the two teams played to a 2-2 tie over the opening 15 minutes. Fisher's

Kyle Denhoff scored to make it 4-3 at the break.
Goalie
Jamie Campagna kept the Cardinals in the game during the second quarter, making seven of his 11 saves during the period.
The Ducks took command early in the third quarter, scoring five straight goals and the Cardinals were never able to regain momentum.
For Fisher, Denhoff finished with three points on one goal and two assists in his final collegiate game. Fellow senior
Mitch Ritchie also tallied three points (all on assists), while seniors
Eric Klein,
Mike Byrnes and Henderson each scored a goal.
David Haseley also scored for Fisher.
Ryan Freije won 11-of-16 faceoffs. He also scooped up 10 ground balls.
Andrew Knoblauch led the Fisher defense with two caused turnovers.
