Women's Lacrosse Sees Win Streak End at Ithaca

The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team was held scoreless over the final 31:19 on Saturday, as No. 21 Ithaca College beat the Cardinals by a score of 8-3.  The Empire 8 loss was the first of the season for Fisher as they are now 2-1 and 7-4 overall, while Ithaca stays undefeated in conference play at 3-0 and 6-3 overall.  The loss also breaks Fisher's five-game winning streak.

The Cardinals started the game strong, scoring the first two goals of the contest as Taylor Hughes connected on a free position and then assisted on a goal from Erin Ward.  However, the Bombers went on a 4-0 run before Melissa Leonhard broke the streak at the 1:19 mark of the first half on a free position.  But, that third tally would prove to be the last for Fisher, as Ithaca was able to keep the Cardinals off the board in the second half.

After scoring three goals in the first 7:12 of the second stanza, Ithaca controlled the ball on offense for the majority of the 30-minute period, running out the clock en route to the win.

Fisher was able to put three shots on cage in the second half, but all were stopped by Ithaca netminder Jess Worthman.  Caroline Trpcevski played all 60 minutes between the pipes for Fisher, finishing with eight saves on the day.

The Cardinals finished the game with a slight edge in draw controls, winning seven compared to Ithaca's six, with all of Fisher's wins coming from Leonhard.

Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday when its hosts Alfred University.
