Sophomore goalie
Jamie Campagna made a season-high 17 saves to pace the St. John Fisher College
men's lacrosse team to a 6-5 win at SUNY Oswego on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup. With the win, Fisher improves to 9-3, while the Lakers fall to 8-4 on the year.
Campagna made five of his saves in the fourth quarter, including two in the final moments of the game to prevent overtime.
Oswego jumped out to a 2-0 lead just over 10 minutes into the game. The Lakers, however, didn't register another goal until midway through the third quarter. Fisher scored five during the shutout-run, including two from All-American
Kyle Denhoff.
The Lakers cut Fisher's lead to 5-4 early in the fourth quarter, but senior
Mitch Ritchie netted the eventual game-winning goal off a pass from
Connor Henderson with 5:06 left. Oswego scored a man-up goal with just under three minutes left, but Campagna and the defense kept the Lakers at bay for the remainder of the game.
Ryan Freije was stellar at the X for Fisher, winning 12-of-15 faceoffs.
Andrew Knoblauch,
David Haseley and
Bryan Dyer each caused two turnovers.
Henderson finished with two points on a goal and an assist.
Mike Byrnes and
Greg Ramsden also scored for Fisher, while Dyer picked up an assist.
Fisher returns to action on Saturday at Alfred University.
