The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team locked up one of four spots in the Empire 8 Conference Championship
with a 5-4 win over Alfred University on Thursday at Mendon Racquet Club.
With the win, Fisher improves to 5-8 overall, but more importantly, 4-2 in the Empire 8 standings, good enough to earn one of four spots in the postseason championship.
Fisher earned two of three points in doubles action.
Daniel Parshall and
John Whelehan won 8-4 at second doubles, while
Pat McGrath and
Tom Quinzi sneaked out a critical point with 9-8 (7-5) victory at third doubles.
Whelehan rallied to win 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 at first singles. While Parshall and
Sheldon Mitchell won in straight sets at third and fourth singles, respectively.
