The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team won its first game of the year today, jumping out to an 11-3 lead and
holding on for the 13-9 win over visiting College at Brockport at Fisher's Growney Stadium.
Seniors
Connor Henderson and
Mitch Ritchie each finished with seven points in the win. Henderson totaled three goals and four assists, while Ritchie tallied two goals and five assists.
Fisher led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Cardinals (1-1) took the lead for good just 1:12 into the game, as Ritchie scored off a pass from
Eric Klein, who finished the game with one goal and two assists. Nearly 10 minutes later, Henderson scored a man-up goal, after
Kyle Denhoff forced a turnover and assisted on the goal.
Fisher broke the game open in the second quarter, scoring six goals in the frame, including four in a five-minute span early in the quarter. Henderson scored one goal and assisted on two others during the critical spurt.
The Cardinals, who led 8-2 at the half, extended their lead to 9-3 after three quarters, thanks to two goals from Denhoff.
Fisher pushed its lead to 11-3 in the opening moments of the fourth quarter on another goal from Henderson. The Golden Eagles closed the gap, scoring six goals in the final 11 minutes.

Pat D'Angelo also scored a goal – the first of their collegiate careers.
Michael Russell picked up one assist.
Defensively,
Jamie Campagna stopped fives shots over the first three quarters. Defensemen
Gregory Bell,
Mitch Bailey and
Andrew Knoblauch combined for seven ground balls.
Paul Cefalu won 6-of-9 faceoffs.
Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday and will host Rochester Institute of Technology. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 5 in the nation.
