The St. John Fisher College volleyball team picked up a 3-1 out of conference win over The College at Brockport on Wednesday night. With the win, the Cardinals move to 7-19 on the year while the Golden Eagles fall to 6-22.
The Cardinals won the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-20, respectively, before Brockport came within one set by taking the third with a 25-19 win. However, and exciting fourth set gave the Cardinals the victory with extra points required to determine the winner. The two teams both had opportunities to take the set, but it was the Cardinals who put consecutive points together to take the set, along with the match, 29-27.
Rachael Kline led the Cardinals with 14 kills, while freshman
Megan Miller posted 10 for her team. The first-year player also had a team-high 21 digs in the match.
Erin Crandall and
Andrea Gillespie also had double digit digs, Crandall finishing with 15 and Gillespie recording 14.
The Cardinals were strong on the net totaling 13 blocks on the night.
Paige Willson came through with eight assisted blocks,
Lauren Rokjer had six and Kline and
Jasmine Davis both pushed back four. Miler recorded Fisher's lone solo block on the night.
Erika Stickler led Fisher with 34 assists, helping to take down current head coach
Kelly Greapentrog's former team.
Fisher will conclude its season on Saturday when the team travels to SUNY Oswego for a tri-match with the host Lakers and the SUNY Potsdam Bears.
