Field Hockey Falls to Nationally-Ranked Rochester

Box Score

The St. John Fisher College field hockey team fell to the No. 20 University of Rochester by a 6-0 score on Wednesday night.  With the loss, Fisher falls to 6-10 on the year, while the nationally ranked Yellowjackets improves to 14-4 overall.

Fisher was held scoreless by a powerhouse defense that currently sits at No. 1 in the nation with an 85.3% save percentage and No. 10 in goals against per game.  The in-town rival also ranks in the top 20 in goals per game (3.73), points per game (9.71) and scoring margin (2.62).

The host Yellowjackets kept their offense balanced, as five different players each scored a goal.  It was only the first Rochester goal that didn't have a goal scorer, with the tally being credited as an own goal against the Cardinals eight minutes into the contest.

The Cardinals had an opportunity to get on the board in the 61st minute, but a penalty stroke attempt by Elizabeth Cusack was saved by Rochester's MacKenzie Sherwood.

Cusack and Alexis Zakala both recorded three shots.  Danielle Famolaro and Kellie Redmond split time in the cage, with the pair combining for six saves.

Fisher will return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday when its hosts the SUNY Oswego Lakers in its final home game of the regular season.  The Cardinals have clinched a berth in the postseason, as they will take part in the Empire 8 Championships with the semifinal game being played on November 3rd at No. 1 seeded Stevens Institute of Technology.
