The St. John Fisher College volleyball program took a major step in solidifying its Empire 8 Conference Championship bid on Saturday night with a 3-2 win over Ithaca College.
After falling behind 2-1, Fisher won the fourth game 25-14 before picking up a thrilling 17-15 win in the fifth and final set. WIth the win, Fisher is 3-3 in the Empire 8 and can clinch the fourth and final spot in the Empire 8 Championship with a win over Hartwick at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
Saturday's fifth game was a wild one to say the least. The Cardinals led throughout most of the match and took a 12-9 advantage after back-to-back kills from freshman
Megan Miller. Ithaca, however, scored the next four points to take a 13-12 lead. The match was tied at 13s, 14s and 15s with both teams serving for match point, before Fisher picked up the final two points.
Miller led the Cardinals with a career-high 21 kills. She also added 17 digs and five blocks.
Rachael Kline added 17 kills,
Paige Willson totaled six blocks, while
Erica Stickler totaled 44 assists.
Earlier in the day, Fisher lost 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 25-13) to Stevens Institute of Technology.
