The St. John Fisher College volleyball team lost to the visiting Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers 3-0 on Tuesday night. The Cardinals, who are now 4-17 on the year, lost by set scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-12. With the road win, RIT improves to 21-11 on the season.
The Cardinals came out of the match fast, building a 4-0 lead in the first set. But the Tigers stormed back and, after tying the game at 13s, took an eventual lead at 14-13. After that point, RIT only allowed three more points to the home team, taking the first set 25-16.
In the second set, after trailing early on, the Cardinals rallied to take a lead at 12-9 and forced the Tigers to use their first timeout of the match. After the timeout the match remained tight, with ties coming at points 15 through 20. However, the visiting team was able to take a 2-0 lead on the night with a close 25-23 win.
The final set was all RIT, as the Rochester rival came away with a dominant 25-12 win for the match.
The Cardinals will be on the road for the remainder of the season as they next travel to Utica College for the final Empire 8 Crossover of the season. With strong outings on Saturday and Sunday, Fisher, who holds a 1-2 record in Empire 8 play, could clinch a spot in the postseason tournament.
