The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team
fell to Hartwick College 76-58 on Friday night in Oneonta, NY. With the loss the Cardinals fall to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8 Conference while the Hawks improved to 14-2 and 3-2.
Fisher never led in the game, falling behind by as many as 22 early in the second half. The Hawks were leading 26-21 with 9:16 remaining in the first half before Fisher went cold, going the next 6:05 without a field goal. In that span Hartwick went on a 14-0 run to take control of the game.
The Cardinals were trailing by 20, 45-25, at the half but opened up the second stanza on a slight run.
Thad Wier got fouled on a three-point attempt and made all of his free-throws to cut the lead to eight , 59-51, with 9:29 remaining. Fisher could only cash in another seven points from that point on, leading to the 18-point loss.
Wier led the Cardinals with 14 points while
Jordan Gettings had 12 points, four assists and four rebounds.
Optimystik Kinard finished with eight points and eight boards.
Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday when it faces the host Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology.
