With the release of the 2011 schedule, the St. John Fisher College football team once again has its sights set on another Empire 8 Conference championship.
Fisher finished last season with a 9-2 overall record after posting a 56-13 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the 2010 ECAC Northwest Bowl Championship. It was the eighth consecutive season Fisher has advanced to the postseason.
Fisher will play a difficult 10-game schedule, facing non-conference opponent Buffalo State in the home opener under the lights at Growney Stadium at 7 p.m. Fisher played Buffalo State on the road last season, winning 54-26.
On September 17th, a week after the season opener, Fisher squares off with local rival University of Rochester in Courage Bowl VII. For just the second year in a row, the game will be played on a neutral site at Sahlen's Stadium in downtown Rochester at 7 p.m. Fisher and Rochester have faced off in the Courage Bowl each season since 2005 in a game dedicated to the children of Camp Good Days and Special Times.
After Courage Bowl VII, Fisher will host Hobart College for Homecoming Weekend on September 24th at 1 p.m. Fisher defeated Hobart on the road last season, winning 34-14.
Fisher begins Empire 8 competition against Alfred University at home on October 1st. Fisher, who has won at least a share of the Empire 8 title four of the past seven years will host the Saxons, who have won the Empire 8 each of the last two seasons.
After Fisher faces Alfred, the Cardinals go on the road to play conference rival Ithaca, hoping to defeat the Bombers for a sixth straight season. Fisher returns home after the Ithaca contest to face Empire 8 newcomer Frostburg State at 12 p.m., a team Fisher defeated last season 38-6 in a non conference contest.
The following week Fisher continues its Empire 8 schedule, facing Springfield on the road before returning home on October 29th to face Utica College in the season's final home game at 7 p.m. This will be Springfield's last year in the Empire 8.
Fisher finishes the season on a two-game road trip, facing another conference newcomer in Salisbury University. The final game of the regular season will be at conference rival Hartwick College on November 12th.
Season ticket information for each of Fisher's five home games, as well as information regarding television, internet and radio broadcasts, will be announced at a later date.
