Nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College suffered its first loss of the season, as the No. 12 Cardinals dropped an 11-8 decision at No. 25 Ithaca College in the Empire 8 Conference men's lacrosse season opener for both teams.
Fisher (7-1) trailed 2-1 after the opening quarter, but the Bombers (5-1) scored the first five goals of the second quarter to take a 7-1 lead late in the first half.
The Cardinals, who trailed 7-2 at the half, pulled to within two goals at 8-6 with less than a minute in the third.
Fisher, however, never got any closer as Ithaca scored the first three goals of the fourth before the Cardinals tacked on two goals in the final minute.
Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Hartwick College.
