St. John Fisher College had its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, as the Cardinals dropped an 18-7 at Hamilton College in a non-conference women's lacrosse matchup between two of the nation's top programs.
Hamilton entered the game ranked No. 2 in the national coaches, while the Cardinals are currently ranked No. 20.
Fisher (4-2) trailed 6-0 before Melissa Leonard scored the first of her team-high three goals on the day with just over 18 minutes left in the first half. The Cardinals scored the next two goals to make it 6-3, but the Continentals (6-1) went on a 6-1 run to take a 12-4 lead with just over 20 minutes left in the game and held on for the win.
Taylor Hughes finished with three points on one goal and two assists.
Meg Merriam collected four draw controls, while chipping in with one goal and one assist.
Fisher will return to action next weekend, opening up Empire 8 Conference action. The Cardinals will play at Elmira College on Friday and Ithaca College on Saturday.
