The St. John Fisher College softball team opened day three at the Tucson Invitational with a 3-1 win over division III Wartburg College of Iowa.
Game one:
Fisher 3, Wartburg 1
Wartburg got on the board first with their only run of the game in the third inning, but Fisher answered with two of its own in the fifth.
Leanne Merchant's sacrifice fly to right field scored
Jennifer Vanek as the go-ahead run. Fisher then added a security run in the sixth.
Vanek went a team-best 2-for-3 from the plate. Merchant,
Jamie Harmon, and
Kelly Jones each recorded an RBI in the win.
The Cardinals recorded no errors in the game.
Pitcher
Danielle Leone improved to 2-1 on the season, allowing only one run and fanning four batters.
Game two:
William Penn 11, Fisher 3
Fisher worked out of bases loaded in the first and went on to get on board first with one run each in the second and third innings, before William Penn could answer and pull ahead.
Jessica D'Angelo went 2-for-3 from the plate with two doubles, while
Kristin McCoy went 2-for-3 from the plate with a team-best two RBI.
Krista Robarge pitched all six innings for the Cardinals, striking out three.
The Cardinals face SUNY Canton tomorrow in a DH, with games scheduled for 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
