Men's Basketball Defeats Worcester State in Coaches vs. Cancer Contest

The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team defeated Worcester State University 64-59 in a tight contest in Massachusetts on Saturday.  Fisher is now 5-3 on the season, while Worcester falls to 2-6.

The game was a Coaches Versus Cancer event, with proceeds being donated toward cancer research and awareness.

Neither team held more than a five-point lead in the contest, with the spread ultimately ending up as Fisher's margin of victory.  The Cardinals were led by Jordan Gettings, who recorded 20 points whilst going a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the road victory.

Despite being a close battle, the Cardinals held the lead throughout much of the game, with Worcester only taking two-point leads sporadically throughout the contest.   The Lancers held a one-point lead with just under three minutes to play, but Gettings scored on the ensuing possession to give Fisher the advantage for good.

Jason Norsen chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds for Fisher, while rookie point guard Thad Wier added 11 points and five rebounds.

Fisher will return to action after the holiday break, when it hosts the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational.  The Cardinals will kickoff play at 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 29th against Westminster College (PA).
