The St. John Fisher College volleyball team
lost 3-2 (25-18, 24-26, 25-13, 20-25, 15-12) to Elmira College in the semifinal of the Empire 8 Championships today. Fisher, ranked fourth in the tournament, now falls to 20-12 on the season. Elmira, the host and number one seed of the tournament, improves to 25-7.
Eeach team won a pair of the first four sets, leading to the fifth and decisive set. With the score tied at 8-8, Elmira won seven of the last 12 points to take the match in the tiebreaker by a 15-12 score.
Becca Smith led Fisher with a team high 15 kills, while also adding 13 digs. Empire 8 Libero of the Year,
Kelsey Osborne, had 26 digs for her team.
Amy Street, the team's primary setter, led the team with 35 assists.
Fisher will now have to wait to hear if it earns a bid to the ECAC Championship, pending the results of conference tournaments. Selections will be announced at a later date.
