The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team
pulled out a narrow 82-81 overtime victory against the visiting Golden Eagles of the College at Brockport. With the win, the Cardinals move to 2-2 on the season while Brockport falls to 0-3.
Jason Norsen scored four of his career-high 31 points in overtime, but it was Plata's free throw with six seconds remaining to make the score 82-79 that proved to be the game-winner.The Golden Eagles inbounded the ball and drove to the three-point line, launching a shot that went in. The referrees determined that the Brockport player's foot was on the line, ruling the shot good for two-points and sealing a Cardinals 82-81 win.
Fisher trailed at the half 32-29, falling behind Brockport by as many as 11 in the first stanza. The Cardinals regrouped in the locker room and came out firing on all cylinders, taking their first lead 55-53 with 9:34 left. Fisher managed to tie the game just a few minutes before at 48 when
David Lynch buried a three off a pass from
Justin Plata.
The Cardinals held the lead until there was 19.4 seconds remaining in the game, when Brockport's John Ivy knocked down two pressure free throws.
Norsen added 12 rebounds for his double-double while lone senior
Jordan Gettings finished with 17 points and six assists.
Thad Wier finished with a career-high 15 points while grabbing two rebounds and two steals.
Fisher will return to action next Wednesday in the Wendy's College Classic. The Cardinals will learn who they play in the opening round when seedings are announced on Sunday night.
