Men's Basketball Earns First Win on the Road

The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team opened its 2011-12 season with an 82-72 win at the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford.  Fisher is now 1-0 on the season, while Pitt-Bradford falls to 0-1.
 
Senior Jordan Gettings gave the Cardinals a 21-point lead late in the first half, after scoring on a drive in the lane.  The margin was Fisher's largest of the game, as they took a 43-25 lead into the half.
 
In the second, the Panthers got within six points with six minutes remaining in the game after they closed the gap to 66-60.  However, Fisher was able to pull away for the victory.
 
Gettings led the Cardinals with 20 points, while also adding four assists and four rebounds. Junior center Jason Norsen went a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line to add to his 14 points on the night.  He hauled in a game-high 11 boards as well. Junior Grant Wrap chipped in with dic rebound of his own.
 
Freshman Optimystik Kinard and sophomore Thad Wier made strong showings in their debuts with the Cardinals, scoring 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Also chipping in were junior Justin Plata with eight points and freshman Spencer Dalzell with six points, going 2-3 from three-point range. Freshman David Lynch also added five points and two boards in the win.
 
Fisher will return to action at 8 p.m. on Friday when it faces Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
