The St. John Fisher College volleyball team won both of its matches in Saturday's tri-match that featured SUNY Geneseo and SUNY Potsdam in Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium. Fisher beat Geneseo 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-14) in the days first game and then took out SUNY Potsdam 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-18) to close the tri-match.
Against Geneseo,
Rachael Kline led the Cardinals with 11 kills, while
Becca Smith added 10. Smith, along with
Jennifer Plotzker and
Kelsey Osborne, led Fisher with 15 digs apiece. Osborne also had four service aces, while senior
Amy Street paced the Cardinals with 32 assists.
In the days final match against Potsdam, Smith had a team-high 15 kills while adding 10 digs and a service ace.
Mandi Mereness, the College's current Female Athlete of the Week, finished with three block assists, while Kline added two solo blocks. Street once again led the Cardinals in assists, totaling 26 against the Bears.
The volleyball team will travel to Elmira College next Saturday for a 1 p.m. match in the Empire 8 Conference Championships. If the Cardinals win, they will advance to the final on Sunday.
