Volleyball Falls to Nazareth on Senior Night

The St. John Fisher College volleyball team dropped to 18-11 on the season after a 3-1 loss to Nazareth on Wednesday night in Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium. Fisher's seniors, Amanda Pinak, Becca Smith and Amy Street, were honored before the game for their time, hard work and dedication to the program.

The two teams faced off just four days ago, with Fisher beating Nazareth 3-2 at the Empire 8 Crossover, which was held at Fisher.

Today, the Golden Flyers came to Bobby Wanzer Court and beat the hosts with victories in the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-18.  The Cardinal would go on to win the third set 29-27, but they could not take the match, as Nazareth won the fourth set 26-24.

Smith led the Cardinals with 14 kills, while also contributing 17 digs.  Libero Kelsey Osborne had a team high 21 digs on the night.  Street provided 42 assists, matched with seven digs and Pinak had seven kills and 12 digs.

Though Nazareth is in the Empire 8 Conference, this match does not count towards either team's conference record.  Both teams will play at the Empire 8 Championship, which is being held at Elmira College on November 4th and 5th.  Fisher will open play against the host Soaring Eagles, while Nazareth will matchup against the Stevens Institute Ducks.

Fisher will return to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday when it hosts SUNY Geneseo in the first match of a tri-match that also includes SUNY Potsdam.  At 3 p.m. of that same day, Fisher will play Potsdam.
