Volleyball Loses Five Set Match to SUNY Fredonia

The St. John Fisher College volleyball team lost a tough match to the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devils by a score of 3-2 on Bobby Wanzer Court.  With the loss, Fisher falls to 18-10 on the season, while Fredonia improves to 22-10.

Fisher held a 12-6 lead in the final set of play, but the Blue Devils went on a 9-0 run to win the fifth set by a 15-12 score.  The win gave Fredonia the 3-2 match victory.

Fisher opened play by winning the first set with a 25-21 score.  However, Fredonia came roaring back, and defeated the hosts in the second set to even the match at 1-1.

In the second, Fredonia held a comfortable 10-4 lead, but Fisher nearly caught up before dropping the set with a 25-22 score.  The Cardinals evened the set at 15-15 after Amy Street served for four consecutive points, but they were unable to take down the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils carried that momentum into the third set and came away with a 25-19 victory to hold a 2-1 lead going into the fourth.

But the Cardinals didn't give up so easy, and answered back with a commanding 25-17 win in the fourth set.

Fisher seemed to be in the driver's seat in the fifth and final set, holding a comfortable 12-6 lead.  However, the three points to victory were much more difficult to get, as Fredonia came storming back to take the match.

Rachael Kline led the Cardinals with a .500 hitting percentage, while providing a team high 17 kills and five digs.  Kelsey Osborne had 24 digs and Amy Street had 49 of Fisher's 50 assists.  Becca Smith and Amanda Pinak also finished with double digit kills, ending with 14 and 10 respectively.

Fisher will return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when its hosts Nazareth College.  Before the match, the Cardinals will recognize their three seniors: Amanda Pinak, Becca Smith and Amy Street.
