The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped in Empire 8 play as
the Cardinals fell 101-95 to the hosting Ithaca College Bombers.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 3-1 in conference, while Ithaca improves to an unblemished 4-0.
Ithaca jumped to its first major advantage of the game on a 10-2 run over two minutes mid-period, skipping out to a 24-13 lead.
With 5:09 left in the first,
Jordan Gettings went on a solo 5-0 run to cut the deficit to seven as the Cardinals inched closer and closer throughout the remaining minutes. It proved to be not enough, though, as the Bombers took a 50-43 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Cardinals could not come close until the end of the second half, when the Fisher kicked off a 13-4 run with 3:43 left in the contest, bringing the team within six at 98-92 with 29 seconds left.
Fisher couldn't capitalize, though, as Gettings' last minute 3-pointer would only bring the Cardinals within six in the final seconds.
The Cardinals, now 7-6 overall, were led by Gettings, who tallied a career-best appearance with 36 points, while chipping in with a team-best eight rebounds. Five Cardinals tallied in the double-digits in the high-scoring effort.
Fisher returns to action next weekend as the Cardinals continue conference play when they travel to Hoboken, N.J. to take on the Stevens Ducks Friday at 8 p.m.
