Men's Basketball Loses In OT At Stevens

The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team lost 58-54 in overtime to host Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday night.

With the loss, Fisher falls to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the Empire 8.

Fisher jumped out 10-8 lead over the opening seven minutes, but Stevens went on an 8-0 run to take the lead at 16-10 at the midway point in the first half.

The Cardinals, however, regained the lead thanks a 13-2 run, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Brandon Witte and Brent Harder.

Fisher, who led 27-24 at the half, pushed its lead to five at 37-32 with 13:58 left, but Stevens regained the advantage after scoring eight straight points.

The Ducks led for most of the second half and had a three-point advantage in the closing moments, but Jordan Gettings forced overtime with a 3-pointer from the left side with 15 seconds left in regulation, knotting the game at 51-51.

In the extra frame, Fisher struggled on the offensive end.  The Cardinals missed their first seven shots from the floor.  Grant Wrap's jumper with one second left was Fisher's only field goal in overtime.

Harder led the Cardinals with 14 points and four assists.  The freshman shot 4-of-6 from 3-point range to lead the way.   Gettings finished with 12 points, while Wrap added 10.

Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Hartwick College.
