Softball Drops Two to Brockport

The St. John Fisher College softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader to visiting Brockport on a sunny Monday afternoon at the Fisher fields, falling to 8-10 on the season.

Game One Box Score
It was most defense in a game that ended abruptly in the eighth inning when Brockport revved up its engines and got the bats swinging, providing the first major offensive push of the game.

Fisher took the lead in the second, when Meghan Graves scored after rounding the bases due to errors from the Brockport fielders. Brockport had the chance to bring it back in the third, but the Cardinals cut them short with two runners on base.

The Golden Eagles tied the game up in the top of the fifth, with one unearned run, before Sarah Stefanon kicked up the defense, throwing a girl out at home, and Megan Zoerb finished the inning off on a stellar double play.

The rest of the game went by quietly before the eighth inning, when Brockport game out gunning. Two runs would seal the win, with Fisher earning only one run in its attempt to answer, but coming up just short.

Stefanon pitched a strong game from the mound, working Fisher out of several jams with three strike outs, allowing only five hits in eight innings, and earning only one run.

Game Two Box Score

Fisher again started off scoring in the nightcap, scoring one run in the bottom of the third, but missing a chance to capitalize with bases loaded. Singles from Samantha Vara and Zoerb brought in Kristin McCoy for Fisher's lone run of the game.

Brockport answered in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run homer from Danielle Sage that would cap off scoring for the remainder of the game.

Michelle Krier struck out six batters in her efforts from the mound, taking the loss for Fisher and falling to 1-3 on the season.

The Cardinals return to action as they host the D'Youville College Spartans tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. on the Fisher fields.
