The St. John Fisher College
women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaking 14-13 loss to Ithaca College in the final seconds of action on Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium. Ithaca scored with just six seconds remaining to take its first lead of the game since early in the first half and secured the victory.
Fisher had taken the lead in the game at the 24:34 minute mark in the first half on a
Trish Scudder goal and never trailed in the game until the final six seconds. The Cardinals held a four-goal lead several times in the game, its largest margin, including 12-9 with just 11 minutes left in the contest. The Bombers chipped away at that lead but Fisher showed resilience.
With just five minutes remaining
Vicki Sahm made a point-blank save on Ithaca's Racquel Lividini which turned into a good clear attempt by Fisher and a goal by
Ashley Fenyn with 4:07 left to take a two-goal advantage, 13-11.
It was the Cardinals last goal of the game, however, as the Bombers put together three unanswered goals to steal the win.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 1-6 overall, 1-1 in the Empire 8 Conference and will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to face East Ave rival Nazareth College at 4 p.m.
