The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team came through a 12-11 win at Alfred University on Sunday.
It was a back-and-forth game throughout the day for the two Empire 8 rivals. The game feature five lead-changes and was tied a total of six different times (1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 6s, 9s and 10s).
Lauren Glavin led the Cardinals with six goals and one assist, while Mary Stimson finished with five points on three goals and two assists. Courtney Clare and Whitney Mirabito each finished with one goal and one assist, while Trish Scudder added a goal.
Vicki Sahm stopped 11 shots to earn the win in net.
Alfred's biggest lead of the game came at 6-4 with just under five minutes left in the first half. The Cardinals, however, scored the game's next five goals, including the first two of the second half, giving the visitors a 9-6 lead with 28:09 remaining.
The Saxons countered with a 4-0 run over the next seven minutes and led 10-9 with just under 21 minutes.
Fisher scored the game's next three goals to take the lead for good, including two from Glavin, the Cardinals' all-time leading scorer.
Alfred scored the game's final goal with 10:01 remaining, pulling the Saxons back to within one, but the Fisher defense held strong with Sahm sealing the win with a save off of a free position shot with just over one minute remaining.
With the win, Fisher improves to 4-11 overall and 3-5 in the Empire 8. Alfred is now 6-8, 1-7.
The Cardinals will close out the 2010 season on Sunday at St. Lawrence University.
