The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team improved to 3-3 in the Empire 8 and 4-10 on the season
with a 6-3 win over host Elmira College on Saturday afternoon.
Despite dropping two of the three doubles matches, the Cardinals earned victories in five of their six singles matches.
Chris Maley and Gregory Duffy teamed up to earn the lone point in doubles play in a decisive 8-3 win at second. The Cardinals then turned around to win all but one of its singles points.
John Whelehan battled to a 7-5, 6-4 win at second, while Duffy earned his second point of the day in a 6-2, 6-2 win at third.
Daniel Parshall rallied to a three-set, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win at fourth singles, while Maley also earned his second point of the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win at fifth.
Tom Quinzi rounded off the singles for Fisher, dropping only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 match at sixth singles.
The Cardinals return to action this week as they wrap up regular season play with two big conference matches. Fisher hosts Ithaca College at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, then hosts R.I.T. at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
