Fisher Hits Five Home Runs to Sweep Keuka

Kayla Goodberlet hit two home runs, including a grand slam, in the second game versus Keuka.
The St. John Fisher College softball team improved to 17-11 overall with its doubleheader sweep of the Keuka College Storm on Wednesday afternoon at Fisher Field. The Cardinals broke out the big bats in the outings, hitting five home runs which brought in a total of eight of Fisher's 11 runs on the day.

Fisher was led by two solo home runs, one by senior Meghan Graves and another by sophomore Carissa Carlson. Graves' homer came in the second inning as she finished 2-for-3 while Carlson added the insurance run in the sixth.

Freshman Sarah Stefanon pitched a complete game one-hitter, calming the Storm by striking out seven.

Graves continued her hitting in the nightcap, this time teaming up with freshman Kayla Goodberlet who stole the show. In the first inning with the bases loaded Goodberlet stepped to the plate and smashed a grand slam over the center field fence. The next batter was Graves, who followed suit by hitting a solo shot of her own.

Later in the game, needing just two runs to induce the fifth inning mercy-rule, Goodberlet stepped to the plate with two outs and Lauren O'Brien on second. In nearly the exact spot the freshman hit a two-run home run to end the game. Goodberlet finished the game 2-for-3 with six RBI. Jenn Vanek, Jamie Harmon and Graves also had added two hits, each contributing an RBI.

Junior transfer Michelle Krier pitched all five innings, surrendering just two hits, an earned while fanning seven.

Fisher will return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts Empire 8 rival Ithaca College at Fisher Field.
