Softball Splits with Medaille

Meghan Graves had three hits on the day, and was one of three Fisher players to record a homerun.
The St. John Fisher College softball team split with visiting Medaille on a cloudy afternoon at the Fisher field, winning the first game 4-1, and dropping the second contest 8-5

Game one: Fisher got on the board right away with an early run by Megan Zoerb, who singled through the middle and advanced on singles from Meghan Graves and Carissa Carlson. Graves increased the lead to 2-0 with a homerun in the third inning, her first of the season.

Medaille cut the lead to only one run in the fourth off a homerun from Alyssa Zemla, her fifth of the season, but it proved to be the Mavericks' only run of the game.

Fisher sealed the win with two runs in the fifth; Graves recording her second run of the game and Carlson her first.

Danielle Leone improved to 5-1 on the season, pitching the entire game for Fisher.

Game two: Despite a valiant effort in the top of the seventh with a homerun from Sarah Fordyce, the Cardinals could not make up for the Mavericks' early 5-0 lead after an eventful third inning.

Pitcher Kristen Rohe homered in the third for Medaille, bringing in two runners with her. A double from Laura Mauger would bring in two more scores for the Mavericks, putting Fisher at a five-run deficit.

The Cardinals answered in the fifth with a homerun from Leanne Merchant that brought in both Fordyce and Graves and cut the deficit to two runs, but Medaille matched Fisher's efforts, bring in three runs in the bottom of the fifth to keep its five-run lead.

Fisher fought to come back in the bottom of the seventh, with Fordyce's homerun bringing in two runs, but it wasn't enough.

Michelle Krier dropped to 0-2 on the season, taking the loss on the mound for Fisher, while Medaille's Kristen Rohe improved to 1-2.

Fisher, now 7-5 on the season, returns to action on Wednesday, when the Cardinals travel to neighboring University of Rochester to take on the Yellowjackets in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
