St. John Fisher College suffered a 70-56 loss to visiting University of Rochester on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the 45th Annual Wendy's College Classic, the oldest and longest running in-season basketball tournament in the nation.
With the win, Rochester advances to the semifinals and will face Hobart College at Roberts Wesleyan, while the Cardinals will play SUNY Geneseo at 8 p.m. at Hobart on Friday.
Fisher trailed by two points at 15-13 with 11:28 left in the first half, but the Yellowjackets rattled off eight straight points to take a double-digit lead at 23-13 just three minutes later.
Rochester led 36-27 at intermission, as the Cardinals shot just 30.0% (9-for-3) from the floor, while the Yellowjackets were 13-for-25 (52.0%) from the floor.
Fisher pulled to within five points at 42-37 just five minutes into the second half on a 3-pointer from freshman Brent Harder, but never got any closer.
Rochester outscored Fisher 14-4 over the next 7:30 and kept at least an eight-point lead for the remainder of the game.
Fisher shot just 32.7 (18-for-55) and was 14-for-23 (60.9%) from the foul line, while Rochester was 45.8% (22-for-48) from the floor and 18-for-19 (94.7%) from the charity stripe, including a perfect 11-for-11 in the second half.
For Fisher, Jordan Gettings and Jordan Koch each finished with 12 points.
