The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team led by two with just over a minute left, but a six-point run by the Christopher Newport Captains would secure
the 69-65 loss for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals trailed by eight, going into the locker room behind 38-30 at the half. A pair of 3-pointers from
Ozell Franklin would bring the Cardinals within three midway through the second half, and later the senior led the way to a lead at 60-58 after making good on a jumper and two free throws, but it wasn't enough as the teams traded leads in the final minutes and the Captains came out on top.
Franklin recorded a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Cardinals, while sophomore
Grant Wrap chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds. Junior
Jordan Gettings and newcomer
Brent Harder each added nine points.
The Cardinals, off to a 0-2 start to the season, return to action on Tuesday night as they take on the hosting College at Brockport Golden Eagles in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference match-up.
